ASL I Beginner American Sign Language
This is a self-paced class with all the perks of a live class. Flexibility: The lessons have pre-recorded videos and assignments that students can complete anywhere and at any time. This course counts as 1 high school credit. (In order to earn a foreign language requirement, students must take the same language in 2 years sequentially). Eighth-grade students are allowed to count this course for their high school requirements as well.
ASL is the 3rd most-used language in the US other than English, and its popularity at colleges continues to rise. Students will learn signs that will allow them to participate in basic signing conversations. Students feel relieved by not having to master a specific accent or vocal inflection as they would when learning a spoken language. In addition to learning signs, students will learn the correct grammar and signing etiquette for ASL.
